Boys tennis: Bharath, No. 2 doubles win vs. Red Wing
Rosemount No. singles player Andreas Dinkelmeyer ranked 7th in the stateBy: Matt Steichen, Rosemount Town Pages
Rosemount No. 1 singles player Andreas Dinkelmeyer debuted at No. 7 in the state individual rankings this week after beating ranked players Brady Rademacher of Eagan and Will Biernat of Eastview last week.
Unfortunately for the Irish, Dinkelmeyer suffered an injury during Saturday’s eventually rained-out Maple Grove tournament and wasn’t available for Monday’s home meet against Red Wing. The Wingers took advantage of his absence and used three singles victories and a pair of doubles wins to post a 5-2 team triumph.
“Red Wing is a very good team. We didn’t play our best tennis and they have a strong singles lineup,” Rosemount coach Dana Beck said. “I knew that we would need to win most or all of the doubles matches to win the match and we fell short.”
Seventh-grader Anshul Bharath scored Rosemount’s lone singles victory, rolling 6-1 and 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
The doubles team of Grayson Freking and Taji Onesirosan added a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) decision. The only other Irish match to go three sets was at No. 1 doubles where Stu Hatlen and Connor McGahn lost 7-6, 2-6, 5-7.
