Between closing its Rosemount Crossings location and opening in the former Shenanigan’s Liquor location, the staff of MGM Wine and Spirits took one day. It was a massive undertaking that took more than 12 hours and included 50 people.
Now set up in Celtic Crossing, staff said they are happy to be in the new location and offering more to customers. Shenanigan’s Liquor closed at the beginning of the year. MGM has spent the last several months renovating the location.
The store was remodeled to better accommodate the MGM model of doing business. For longtime Shenanigan’s manager and new MGM employee Sharon Watschke the renovations were a welcome change.
“It’s nice. It’s like coming home and someone remodeled your home for you,” said Watschke.
Store manager Stewart Nelson said the new location allows the store to carry a lot more products, which he thinks will be good for business. Nelson said every section has been expanded. Beer cooler space is twice what it was in the former location.
The larger beer cooler lets the store carry a wider selection of microbrew and import beers. Nelson said demand for those types of beers has risen in recent years and they have worked to accommodate the need.
For those who enjoy wine, the store has many to choose from, including two coolers of chilled wines and specialty brands that are hard to find.
To meet demand, Nelson said they are constantly tweaking and changing the store. The new store offers more space to make changes and try new things.
The new location also offers a lot more space for other uses. The location has a break room for employees, something the last location did not. And Nelson has a good sized office.
“This is the biggest office I’ve ever had,” said Nelson.
Employee John Bloom, who has worked for MGM for seven months, said overall the location is just better.
“There’s a lot more room and it’s more set up to be a liquor store,” said Bloom.
While the move was a lot of work, Bloom said he’s happy for the change. So far customer seems happy too, Bloom added.
