Police will hold garage sale April 14
Sale will include 67 bikes of various sizes and other items recovered by policeBy: Emily Zimmer, Rosemount Town Pages
Looking for a cheap bike? The Rosemount Police Depart will hold its unclaimed goods garage sale April 14 and there will be bikes aplenty. The sale will start at 8 a.m. at the storage garage north of city hall.
Police chief Gary Kalstabakken said the department has 67 bicycles and a number of other items to sell at the event. The police department holds garage sales periodically to clear out space in the city’s evidence locker and storage space.
Over time the department collects bikes and other goods that have either been found or recovered as stolen goods. The department holds the items hoping the rightful owners will claim them, but after a while things start to pile up.
The bikes available come in a variety of sizes and are all priced under $40. Additional items available include an RCA brand stereo, compact disc wallets, power inverters, car stereos, a tool kit and other miscellaneous items.
The department has more items than usual this year because there was no sale last year.
The money collected through the garage sale goes back into the city’s general fund, said Kalstabakken. The garage sale doesn’t typically raise much.
For those interested in shopping the sale, Kalstabakken recommended coming early to get first pick. He said in the past they’ve had people waiting in line when they’ve opened.
To avoid having your bike or other items in a police garage sale, Kalstabakken recommended writing down the serial numbers to claim them if they are lost or stolen.
The garage sale will end either when the inventory runs out or at noon. It will be held in the storage garage just north of Rosemount City Hall, 2875 145th Street West. Parking is available in the Central Park lot.
