Pody's column: A lot going on in March
There are so many things going on we have no control over: gas prices, unusual weather, unemployment, the housing market, lawsuits unheard of several decades back, out-of-control government spending, the political blame game, the addition of many committees and constant campaign travels. Several weeks ago, Town Pages editor Nathan Hansen sat down to write his column but his mind was blank. That’s me this week.
There are so many things going on we have no control over: gas prices, unusual weather, unemployment, the housing market, lawsuits unheard of several decades back, out-of-control government spending, the political blame game, the addition of many committees and constant campaign travels.
On the home front, it’s the Vikings stadium. I still don’t understand why they couldn’t have signed an extention at the dome until our economic climate improved. They couldn’t wait to get downtown to a covered stadium before the dome was built.
Maybe it’s the absentee ownership that doesn’t care. It seems like a no brainer, but some apparently consider it more important to put emphasis in a stadium rather than education or aging infrastructure.
In education, I don’t mean more administrators, but rather dedicated teachers in the classroom. Recently, I talked with a young lad who jokingly told me that schools had replaced cursive in the elementary schools with sex education.
I’m thankful I am the age I am. I grew up without all the outside influences and teachers were teachers.
Next week we enter the holiest week in the Christian church. Every year on Ash Wednesday believers start the journey that ends Easter Sunday. Next Sunday Palm Sunday starts Holy Week.
Many families don’t even know the true meaning, but consider it a time for Easter egg hunts and sales. I read that a many people go to church Easter Sunday to see what improvements had been made since they were there at Christmas.
We lost several dear friends during March. It makes us realize how precious each day is. You never know when tomorrow never comes.
Yes, March went fast and I look forward to Easter and April. Hopefully things will slow down a bit.
Remember the old saying, March winds bring April showers that bring May flowers.
