Rosemount FFA banquet held
The Rosemount Chapter of the Future Farmers of America held its annual Parent-Son Banquet on Saturday evening, Feb. 24. This was the culmination of the annual F.F.A. Week, which occurs during the week of George Washington’s birthday....
Special recognition was given to the Chapter Sweetheart, Cecelia Storkamp, by the presentation of a Sweetheart jacket. After the introduction of guests a number of chapter members participated in the pageant, “Building the Emblem.” This was a very enlightening part of the program. Briefly it dealt with the various parts of the official emblem and the meaning of each part. Dennis Napper was the narrator for the pageant.
Honorary Chapter Farmer Degrees were presented to A.C. Heine, Kenneth A. Monson, and Arthur Volkert Sr.
The speaker of the evening was Mr. A.C. Heine....
Arthur Volkert spoke briefly on behalf of the parents there and also on behalf of the Board of Education.
The program closed with the presentation of Green Hands and Chapter Farmer Certificates, following with the regular closing ceremony.
Blue and gold awards given
The annual Blue and Gold banquet of the Cub Scouts was held Wednesday evening, February 28, at the Rosemount High School auditorium.
Ten dens were represented and the tables were decorated in red, white and blue, symbolizing Americanism with centerpieces of Uncle Sam’s hat, pictures of the presidents and the place cards were Lincoln logs made by the denners, with the name written on red, white and blue hatchets....
A 50-star flag was presented to the pack by Mrs. Murial Krueger, president in the name of the new V.F.W. Post Auxiliary No. 9433, of Rosemount.
The annual “Cubby” award was won by Den. No. 5. They will keep the award and its contents. The 1962 Cubby was made by Palmer Kolstad, and is a replica of the Pinewood Derby – an outstanding model made of fine woods with the racing car on the miniature track and a slot where the driver sits for money.
A trio, consisting of Al Trondson, Wayne Stoerzinger, and Michael McInerny rendered a fine group of songs, which added to the evening’s festivity.
Den mothers and dads were honored for their loyal and continued work with the young cubs.
The awards were then presented: Terry Stoerzinger, wolf badge, silver arrow; Eddie Kolstad, silver arrow under wolfe badge; Mike Scott, wolf badge; Tom McInerny, bear badge, gold arrow; Pat LaPointe, lion badge & gold arrow; Pat Moynihan, lion badge & gold and silver arrow.
Dens. No. 1, 5 and 6 won the Cubby award for the month of March. An inspiring poem by Bernice LaPointe titled “Our Flag Speaks” brought the evening to a close.

Some land prices
Martin Zanmiller, who sold his farm near Rosemount about two months ago at $60 per acre, has bought the Jim Hyland farm of 151 acres, one mile west of Rosemount, for $15,000. Just before buying the Hyland farm Mr. Zanmiller offered W.E. Callahan $15,000 for his 160 acre farm near Coates. If these prices are a criterion as to land values in these sections we are led to think they are going up some.
