After a year hiatus, the Shamrock Film Festival will once again showcase what local filmmaking talent has to offer.

After trying some different things in 2010, festival director Beth Adams said organizers are trying to keep things simple in 2012. For the public the festival will have a Best of Show presentation from 6 to 9 p.m. March 10 at the Steeple Center, 14375 S. Robert Tr.

Adams said the festival screening will include the winners of the various categories and some previous winners. The short films will be shown with a high quality projector.

“It should be a good night out,” said Adams.

During the event the three judges will explain why they chose each winner. The winning filmmakers will have the opportunity to speak about their films.

“It’s going to be very hands on this year. We are planning a more intimate event,” said Adams.

For those who want to see some of the other entries there will be a preview of the films from 6 to 8 p.m. March 7 at the Robert Trail Library. Adams said residents can view a variety of films that were entered in the contest.

Adams said the festival has averaged about 20 entries a year. While she didn’t know the exact number of entries yet, Adams expected numbers would be a little lower this year.

The Shamrock Film Festival is one of the first events put on by the Rosemount Area Arts Council. The first festival was held in 2008. The year hiatus was because of scheduling conflicts, but Adams said the event is back and will aim to show what local filmmakers have to offer. Going into 2013 Adams hopes to make some bigger changes to the festival. But for this year, she’s just happy to be doing it.

Cost to attend the event is $5. An SKB grant will allow Rosemount residents to get a dollar off if they show their driver’s license.
