Pucks started to find the net, but not quite often enough to put an end to Rosemount’s losing streak.
The Irish scored seven goals in two games last week, the most they’ve scored in back-to-back conference games this season, but their skid reached six games after a pair of one-goal road losses at Eastview and Bloomington Jefferson.
A promising start gave way to a frustrating finish last Tuesday at Apple Valley Sports Arena when the Irish saw a 4-0 lead disappear in a 6-5 loss to the Lightning.
Ryan Anderson opened the scoring with a power-play goal, Tyler Frank scored and Ted Schultz put the puck in the net twice during the first 17 minutes. Frank’s second goal made it 5-1 1:54 into the second period, but Eastview crept back within 5-3 through two periods.
The Lightning posted a 20-5 shot advantage in the third and scored three goals to complete the rally.
Tom Fraune played all 51 minutes in goal and stopped 34 shots. Eastview goaltender Matt Montgomery gave up five goals in 12 shots before Alex Wohl relieved him late in the second period and stopped all 11 shots that came his way.
The Irish also led early on in Saturday’s regular season finale in Bloomington.
Ryan Anderson lit up the scoreboard with a power-play goal (assists to Trevor Kolden and Andy Gustafson) 12:07 into the second, but the Jaguars used a pair of third-period goals to rally for a 3-2 victory.
It was 2-1 Jefferson by the time Gustafson scored a goal of his own (assists to Ryan Anderson and Schyler Storer) to tie it back up with four minutes to go. The Jaguars went ahead for good with a goal at the 15:44 mark.
Fraune finished with 37 saves.
The Irish (4-17) are back in action tonight when they hit the road to take on No. 20-ranked (Class 2A) Prior Lake. The team is back home Saturday when it takes on Lakeville North.
