Rosemount head coach Bryan Schnettler was pleased with his team’s effort in last Thursday’s season opener at Minnetonka.
The Irish kept the game close throughout, but problems taking care of the ball and controlling the glass resulted in a 60-55 setback. They finished with more turnovers (23) than field goals (21) and surrendered 16 offensive rebounds that turned into 16 points for Minnetonka.
“I loved our effort last (Thursday), just like I have loved our effort through the first two weeks of practice,” Schnettler said. “We have great kids that work hard and listen well.… We know what we need to work on and we will continue to improve.”
Forward Matt Nelson led Rosemount with 15 points and was a presence in the paint, grabbing seven rebounds and blocking four shots. Brandon Forcier led the team with eight boards.
Tyler Liermann added 11 points, five rebounds and five steals and guard Charlie Broback knocked down 3 of 10 three-pointers en route to nine points.
The Irish (0-1) are back in action tonight when they host Benilde-St. Margaret’s at Irish Gym. Tip-off is at 7:15.
