Rosemount locked up a share of its first conference title since the 1980s by beating Eastview 103-83 in the final dual meet of the regular season last Tuesday at Rosemount Middle School.
The Irish finished in a three-way tie with Lakeville North and Prior Lake as all three teams finished with 8-1 records in the South Suburban Conference.
“Winning the conference is a big accomplishment and the girls were very proud of themselves for all their hard work and effort throughout the season,” Rosemount coach Tami Carlson said. “They are now focusing on what they need to do to become section champs and qualify for state.”
The Irish will compete at the Section 3AA Championships next Thursday and Saturday and Richfield Middle School. The Class 2A State Meet gets under way Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.
Rosemount took an early lead in its final dual meet when Elyse Griffith, Olivia Johnston, Megan Wenman and Teija Normandeau combined to win the medley relay.
The Irish went on to win eight of the meet’s 12 events. Wenman contributed to four of them, adding individual victories in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle and joining Griffith, Beth Wenman and Claire Tolan in the 400 freestyle relay.
Johnston ended up with three golds. She won the 200 freestyle and came back to claim the 100 breaststroke.
Tolan and Griffith helped the Irish pull away late in the meet by winning the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke, respectively. Tolan also placed second behind Megan Wenman in the 200 freestyle.
Other runner-up finishes were turned in by Normandeau in the 50 freestyle, Katrina Orthmann in the 100 buterfly and Jessica Troen in the 500 freestyle.
