The Rosemount girls tennis team is headed back to the state tournament.
The Irish, seeded third in the Section 3AA tournament, beat second seed Eagan on Tuesday and first seed Prior Lake, 4-3, Thursday on the courts at LifeTime Fitness in Lakeville. Individual results were not immediately available, but according to information from Rosemount High School four of the seven matches went to a third set.
According to the Minnesota State High School League's webpage, the Irish are set to take on the Section 8AA champion Brainerd at noon Oct. 25 at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center.
Brainerd was the top seed in the north division of Section 8AA. They beat St. Cloud Tech, the top seed from the south, 4-3 in the section final Oct. 8 in Sartell.
The Irish last qualified for state as a team in 2009. They went 18-5 last season, but fell to Eagan in the section finals.
