Dakota County plans deer hunts in parksApplications due Oct. 10 for hunting in area county parks
Hunters who wish to participate in controlled deer hunts at Dakota County parks must submit an application to the county by Monday, Oct. 10. Applications are available online.
Archery hunts are scheduled at various hours and dates in Lebanon Hills Regional Park and in the western section of Spring Lake Park Reserve, west of Hastings. Lebanon Hills Regional Park will be closed until noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Oct. 31 through Nov. 16. The western portion of Spring Lake Park Reserve will be closed all day Nov. 5–7, 11–13 and 19–21.
A shotgun hunt will be held at Miesville Ravine Park Reserve Nov. 19 through 27. The park will be closed during this time.
Controlling deer populations supports natural reforestation and reduces damage to nearby agricultural crops and landscaping, county officials said. Lower deer populations also improve park habitat for other wildlife that benefit from diverse plant life. Residents also benefit from fewer deer-car collisions and the potential reduced spread of deer-borne diseases.
