The section tournaments for spring sports teams have begun and offers a big week for Rosemount teams.
The Irish softball team, seeded No. 8 in the Class 3A, Section 3 playoffs, opened with a win at No. 9 seed Lakeville North last week and moved on to face Burnsville in today's quarterfinals. Rachel Hoeppner and Melissa Seldon had RBIs in last week's 2-1 win against the Panthers, driving in Grace Longman and Makayla Newberry. Rosemount plays at No. 1 seed Burnsville today at 4 p.m.
The Rosemount/Eagan girls lacrosse team opens its playoffs with a home game. The Wild Irish earned the No. 7 seed and will host No. 10 seed Park at Rosemount High School at 7 p.m. tonight in Section 3 play.
The Irish boys lacrosse team was named the No. 1 seed in Section 3 after winning its first conference title during the regular season. Rosemount gets a bye in the first round of play and will host the winner between No. 8 seed Rochester Mayo and No. 9 seed Rochester John Marshall. The Irish's first game is scheduled for May 27 at Rosemount at 7 p.m.
The Irish girls tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss at Burnsville in the first round of the team section tournament last week. Rosemount will have two singles and two doubles teams in the individual section tournament, beginning next week. Matt Baker and Will Holcomb will play doubles for the Irish and the duo drew the No. 2 seed. Sean and Stuart Hatlen will play doubles. Dominic Olhoff and Blake Sowokinos will compete in singles action in the Class 2A, Section 3 individual tournament.
