Irish paired with Eagan in first round of boys basketball section tournament

The Rosemount boys basketball team was named the No. 7 seed in the Class 4A, Section 3 tournament and will face No. 2 seed Eagan on Tuesday.

The game is at Eagan High School and is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats won the two meetings between the teams in South Suburban Conference action. However, the Irish can take solace in the way they played Eagan, losing by just two points each time.

Rosemount lost 57-55 at home against the Wildcats at the end of January. The Irish then lost 60-58 at Eagan on Feb. 22.

Conference champion Eastview ended up with the No. 1 seed and will face No. 8 seed Park.

Apple Valley, which beat Rosemount 66-64 in the regular season finale last week, is the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seed Burnsville.

Lakeville South, the No. 4 seed, will host No. 5 seed Lakeville North.

The section semifinals are Saturday, March 12 at St. Olaf College, with the finals on Friday, March 18 at St. Olaf's Skoglund Arena.
