Rosemount High School graduate killed in Afghanistan

A 31-year-old Rosemount man has died while serving in Afghanistan. The United States Department of Defense announced Monday that Spec. Andrew C. Wilfahrt died Feb. 27 in Kandahar Province. He was injured when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device.

Andrew Wilfahrt, a 1997 graduate of Rosemount High School, deployed to Afghanistan in July as a Military Police officer. He was on patrol Sunday in Kandahar Province when insurgents attacked his patrol with an improvised explosive device. He died as a result of injuries suffered in the attack.

The United States Department of Defense confirmed Wilfahrt's death Monday.

Rosemount High School principal John Wollersheim said Wilfahrt was a strong student who was involved in band and choir at the school.

Wilfahrt enlisted in the Army in January of 2009. Since July of 2009 he had been assigned to the 728th Military Police Battalion, 8th Military Police Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command at Schofield Barracks, HI.
