Man gets picked up on warrant

First, he ended up in the ditch. Then, he wound up in jail.

Dennis Wayne Dahl, 56, of Minneapolis, was a passenger in a car that ended up in a ditch around 8 p.m. Jan. 22 in Coates. When Dakota County Sheriff’s deputies arrived they found the driver and Dahl, who initially gave a different name to deputies. Dahl didn’t match the picture that showed up when deputies checked that name online, but there was an alias associated with the name.

According to a complaint filed in the Dakota County Attorney’s office Dahl admitted giving police his cousin’s name. He said he did so because there is a warrant for his arrest.

If convicted on a gross misdemeanor charge of giving a false name to police Dahl could face up to a year in jail and fines of up to $3,000.

A 20-year-old Farmington man has been charged with a felony for being in possession of a laptop computer that was taken last June from a car in Rosemount.

The Macbook computer was taken June 2. During their investigation, police learned it was used later that month at the Farmington home of Than Van Vo. According to a complaint filed in the Dakota County Attorney’s office, Vo said he bought the computer, valued at more than $1,200, for $50.

If convicted on a felony charge of possessing stolen property Vo could face up to five years in jail and fines of up to $10,000.
