Girls hockey: Irish improve to 5-1

Rosemount girls hockey coach Tracy Cassano was looking forward to last week’s action for her squad. A three-game week, which included strong competition, was just what Cassano thought her team needed.
The Irish went 2-1 during the busy week.
Rosemount beat Prior Lake 7-1 to start the week, and followed it up with a 3-2 win at home against Breck, the No. 3 ranked team in Class A. The Irish lost at Lakeville North, 5-2, last weekend.
A slow start against the Panthers played a big part in Saturday’s loss.
Lakeville North scored three goals in the first period on just four shots. The Panthers added 18 shots and a goal in the second and 10 shots and a goal in the third.
Meanwhile, Rosemount (5-1, 2-1 South Suburban) scored once in the first and once in the second while being outshot 32-30.
Hannah Esselman scored both goals for the Irish with Rachael Kelly and Allison Micheletti picking up assists.
Caitlin Dantzscher made 25 saves in goal for Rosemount.
The offense was clicking in a South Suburban Conference win against Prior Lake.
The Irish scored twice in the first and three times in the second and added two more goals in the third. They went two for four on the power play, while outshooting the Lakers 44-14.
Kelly had three goals and one assist. Micheletti scored two goals with an assist.
Taylor Sampson tallied a goal and assist. Kendra Goodrich scored the other goal, while Alison Warweg had an assist.
Dantzscher finished with 13 saves.
