Tim Judy has requested a recount in the Nov. 2 Rosemount City Council election. Rosemount city staff received a letter requesting the recount shortly before 4 p.m.
The margin for the city council race was 26 votes. Judy received 3,410 votes while incumbent Mark DeBettignies received 3,436.
According to Minnesota State Statute a losing candidate in a municipal election may request a recount of the votes cast for the election if the difference is less than one-half of 1 percent of the total votes counted for that office.
Since the margin was so close the city will be responsible for funding the recount, said communications director Alan Cox. City clerk Amy Domeier will lead the manual recount of the ballots, which went under lock and key after the original count. The city hasn't determined yet when the recount will take place but hopes to have it done before December when it will have to turn over the ballots for the governors race recount.
