The Rosemount football team advanced to the Class 5A state semifinals with a 24-14 victory against Lakeville South on Thursday night at Griffin Stadium in St. Paul.
The Irish move on to the Metrodome for the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 19 and will face the winner of the Eden Prairie-Brainerd quarterfinal game.
Rosemount faced its stiffest test of the season against Lakeville South on Thursday.
The Cougars got on the board first, jumping to a 7-0 first quarter lead, but the Irish quickly countered. Tony Prostrollo took the kickoff 85 yards for a Rosemount touchdown.
Andrew Hausmann added a 14-yard touchdown run to cap a 68-yard, 12-play Irish drive, giving them a 14-7 lead.
Lakeville South scored with 53.8 seconds left in the half, but Rosemount had more than enough time to add another score.
After a short kickoff, the usually running-oriented Irish took to the air.
Rosemount quarterback Kevin Larson hit Goaner Deng on a 36-yard pass. David Morgan then caught an 18-yard pass.
Larson and Morgan ended the drive with a 13-yard touchdown pass and reception, respectively, with Morgan leaping above a defender to pull in the catch and give Rosemount a 21-14 lead with just 24.2 seconds left in the half.
Morgan added a first-half interception.
Colton Crow had two interceptions in the second half as the Irish held Lakeville South scoreless in the second half. His second interception, a leaping grab of a high throw, came one play after Rosemount turned the ball over at the 36-yard line with just over 5 minutes left in the fourth.
Logan Lindberg finished the scoring for the Irish with a 27-yard field goal with less than two minutes remaining.
Larson finished with 101 yards on 5 of 8 passing and 40 yards rushing. Morgan caught three balls for 49 yards.
