After winning six of seven matches, the Rosemount volleyball team appeared to be gaining the consistency it has sought all season long.

The consistency was coming at the perfect time, with the regular season coming to a close and the section tournament opening this week. Included in the six-of-seven stretch was a 2-1 win over Burnsville.

The Irish finished the regular season with a South Suburban Conference match at Burnsville last week.

Now Rosemount is left to wonder if it really has found consistency.

The Irish lost 3-1 at Burnsville last week to finish the regular season with a 15-11 overall record. Rosemount’s 3-6 conference mark equaled a seventh-place finish in the 10-team South Suburban Conference. Lakeville North, the state’s No. 1 ranked team entering the playoffs, won the conference title with a 9-0 mark.

After the loss, the Irish were given the No. 7 seed in the Class 3A, Section 3 tournament which starts this week.

Rosemount hosted No. 10 seed Simley in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday. Results were not available at press time. Go to www.rosemounttownpages.com for results of the first-round match.

Simley was 13-14 this season, 5-9 in the Classic Suburban Conference. With a victory, the Irish would face No. 2 seed Bloomington Jefferson at 7 p.m. Friday at Jefferson High School. The Jaguars swept Rosemount 3-0 in a conference match earlier this season.

If the Irish hope to advance and extend their season, they will need to start quicker than they did against Burnsville last week.

The Blaze won the first two games, 25-21 and 25-23. Rosemount rallied to win game three 25-20, but Burnsville finished the victory with a 25-18 win in game four.

Ali Fromme had 13 kills for the Irish and added 12 digs.

Elaine Warner had 12 kills, three aces and three blocks.

Cassie Hansen had 43 assists while Jillian Blanc finished with 22 digs.
