Girls tennis advances to section semifinals

The Rosemount varsity girls tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the team section tournament with a 7-0 win against Eastview on Thursday.

The Irish advanced to play next Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville.

Against the Lightning, Virginia Norder beat Miriah Lavold 6-0, 6-1. Ally Baker beat Jordan Kopfer 6-1, 6-1. Kristen Hoffman beat Paige Brunn 2-6, 6-3, 6-0. And Mariah McGivern beat Avery Koester 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles play, Makayla Newberry and Layna Mestad beat Spika/Alojado 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Heather Castner and Megan Harrington beat Paulsen/Desmond 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. And Emily Olson and Emily Harrington beat VanGuilder/Elton 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In the first round against Park on Tuesday, Rosemount won 7-0. Norder won 6-0, 6-0. Baker won 6-0, 6-0. Hoffmann won 6-1, 6-0, and McGivern won 6-0, 6-0.

Newberry and Mestad won 6-0, 6-1. Castner and Megan Harrington won 6-1, 6-0, and Olson and Emily Harrington won 6-0, 6-2.
