The Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a candidate forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at city hall.
The first hour of the forum will focus on the city council races. Two seats on the council are up for election, along with the mayor position.
Chamber president Ruthe Batulis said the candidates will be given some time at the beginning to give a brief introduction of themselves. Then a moderator will ask candidates a number of business related questions. At the end of the hour residents will get the chance to ask the candidates questions.
The four candidates for the two open council seats are incumbents Kim Shoe-Corrigan and Mark Debettignies and challengers Tim Judy and Joe Kurle. Kurt Hansen has challenged incumbent mayor Bill Droste.
“Our job is to educate voters on the business issues,” said Batulis. “It’s never been more important to be an educated voter.”
Batulis said the focus of the forum will be business, which she added will be a big issue this election year.
“Jobs are going to be one of the top issues during this election and it’s important voters know where candidates stand on business issues,” said Batulis.
The second hour will focus on the District 37 Legislative races. Again the focus will be business, but at a broader level.
Current State Representative for District 37B Phillip Sterner (DFL) is facing challenger Kurt Bills (R). And Michael Germain (DFL) has challenged incumbent senator Chris Gerlach (R).
The forum is free and open to all. For those who can’t attend the Sept. 27 forum, it will be replayed on the cable access channel until Nov. 2.
