Boys soccer: Floersch looking for players to step upRosemount has a record of 2-5-1 after a 1-0 loss to Lakeville North last week

Last season the depth of the Rosemount boys soccer team was tested due to injuries and suspensions.
It was a lesson for Irish coach Mike Floersch, who entered this year knowing his team would have to develop depth to grow as a program.
Floersch was just hoping the depth wouldn’t be tested as much this season.
But, the injury bug has crept up for Rosemount during the past week and the timing couldn’t have been any worse for the Irish. Rosemount had No. 1 Apple Valley and a strong Bloomington Jefferson squad on the schedule for this week.
“That’s the way it is,” Floersch said of the injury situation. “It’s athletics. Somebody has to step up and have a great game. That’s why they call it a team. We need a lot of other guys to step up their game and hopefully they will do that.”
Rosemount (2-5-1, 0-3 South Suburban) took a 1-0 loss in its most recent game, dropping the one-goal contest last week at home against Lakeville North.
The Panthers scored near the final minute of regulation to take the victory.
“It was a good game, the guys really played well,” Floersch said. “We really controlled the ball. I was really impressed. We didn’t do much subbing and guys were exhausted. It was a bummer with them scoring with about a minute left in the game. They crossed it and it bounced around and went into the net.”
Rosemount hosts Jefferson (5-3-1, 2-1-1 South Suburban) today and plays at Cretin-Derham Hall on Saturday.
The Irish host Prior Lake next Tuesday as part of the school’s homecoming festivities. It will be the soccer homecoming/community/senior night. The girls will play Prior Lake at 5 p.m. followed by the boys game at 7 p.m.
Free admission is offered to youth players, kindergarten through eighth grade, wearing their soccer jersey. One free hamburger and dessert is available with admission and players can enter a drawing for a chance to win a signed varsity soccer ball or poster.
