The Rosemount girls basketball team learned some very important lessons as the season went on.
While it’s little consolation to this year’s seniors, the Irish and coach Sam McDonald are hoping that will bode well for the future.
After starting the season 8-1, Rosemount (11-16, 2-14 Lake) struggled in conference play. McDonald knows those were valuable lessons.
“It comes down to a learning curve a little bit this year in respect on learning how to finish games,” McDonald said. “Certainly a lot of those games came down to the wire and we came up short. Hopefully for the individuals coming back it was a good learning experience to help in the future.”
While seniors Micaella Petrich, Abbie Bauernfeind, Hannah Mothershead and Ashley Roup concluded their Irish careers with a loss to Eastview in the first round of the section tournament, several underclassmen are set to return.
Junior Elaine Warner led the team with 16.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. She was sixth in the conference in scoring.
Junior Rachel Hoeppner averaged 14.1 points per game and was a threat from 3-point territory. Junior Sara Feeser added 10.4 points per game.
“I know we have some quality players coming back,” McDonald said. “We have some pieces to work with and we’ll see what we can accomplish next season.”
