Meat and beer attract men to home parties

Nick Karels was searching Craigslist when something called Man Cave caught his eye. So he clicked on it to find out what it was all about.
Man Cave, Karels learned, is a fairly new company that started in Minnesota for enterprising young men. Representatives for the company demonstrate and sell products specifically for men, such as meats and grilling accessories through in home parties. It’s a lot like Pampered Chef but with beer and dirty jokes.
“I thought it sounded like a fun idea,” said Karels.
Karels, who has a 9-month-old baby, said the idea appealed to him because he could work from home and he loves to grill.
The 21-year-old contacted the company and got set up to sell. On Saturday Karels held his first “Meating” of about 20 people at his home.
Man Cave works a lot like many home-based businesses. An individual hosts a party and invites people over to learn about a product. An advisor, in this case Karels, demonstrates the products and takes orders.
Karels receives commission based what he sells. Additionally the host of the party receives some goods for hosting.
For his first Meating, Karels set up in his garage. He had two grills going and tunes in the background. A list of Man Laws hung on the wall as the guest tried jalepeno and pineapple brats, beef sticks and sirloin steaks.
In addition to meat Karels showed off some of the company’s other products, including a beer mug, a pop off bottle opener and a stainless-steel chicken roaster.
Karel hosted his first Meating at his home to introduce the idea to his friends and family. He hopes they will want to book more Meatings with him in the future and will spread the word to others.
His friend Charlie Westerman has already been talking him up. Westerman said he liked the products he tried and has been telling his friends and family about it.
“I want to get the word out there,” said Westerman.
Man Cave was founded By Nick Beste, a University of Minnesota student. Company representative Sam Kraus said while there are lots of home-based companies for women; there were none for men. Man Cave fills that void, he said.
Kraus said the company has grown quickly and has more than 250 advisors. Karels is the first and only one in Rosemount.
