Discovering the cause of the recent struggles for the Rosemount boys hockey isn’t a problem for Irish coach Scott Macho.

Macho has been able to pinpoint the problem. Now Rosemount is working to solve the issue.

“Right now I just think we’re having problems stringing a full three periods together,” Macho said. “I think we’ve come in and we’ve talked about it. We’ve been working on the issue and we’re trying to make a difference. We just need to focus and put together three periods.”

The recent slide for the Irish reached five games after a pair of losses last week. Rosemount lost 5-1 at Chaska/Chanhassen and 4-3 at Lakeville North.

But Macho sees his team potentially working its way out of the struggles. The coach saw improvement last week just from one game to the next.

“Absolutely, I definitely think we bounced back a bit,” Macho said. “It was good to see how we competed in that first period against Lakeville North.

“It’s a combination of the attitude, desire and wanting, and stuff like that. We have to come together more as a group.”

Macho believes the first period against Lakeville North is what Rosemount needs, and could have, on a more regular basis. But it was the second period that came back to bite the Irish against the Panthers.

Rosemount outshot Lakeville North 8-1 in the first period and held a 1-0 advantage after Luke Haase scored unassisted. The Panthers scored their four goals during a tough second period, though.

Josh Lower and Andrew Anderson also scored for Rosemount, which had an assist from Jared Newman.

“We outshot them, out-played them and outscored them in the first period,” Macho said. “In the second we gave up a few goals that made the difference. In the third period we were better. We’re looking for that consistency factor right now.”

Against, Chaska/Chanhassen, Loew scored in the third period.

After a road game at Buffalo this week, the Irish enjoy a week off before going on the road to face Lakeville South on Jan. 2. Results of the Buffalo game were unavailable at press time.
