The Rosemount football team earned the No. 2 seed in the Class 5A, Section 3 tournament. Unfortunately, due to unexpected circumstances, the Irish will open on the road.
Rosemount was named the section's second seed with a 5-3 overall record this season. The top-seeded teams host during the first round of the playoffs, which start Tuesday, Oct. 27.
However, the field at Irish stadium is rough condition after the rain and cold of the past two weeks. Thus, Rosemount will play at Apple Valley in round one.
The Irish will play against the seventh seed, Apple Valley. The game is set for 7 p.m. at Apple Valley's stadium. The Eagles were 1-7 this season, and Rosemount won 31-0 against Apple Valley in the season opener for both teams.
Eastview earned the section's top seed. The Lighting also had a 5-3 record, but won the head-to-head matchup with the Irish, 13-10 at Eastview in the second week of the season.
The No. 3 seed Bloomington Kennedy hosts No. 6 seed Prior Lake. If the Irish win, they will face the winner between the Eagles and Lakers.
Another higher-seeded team will play on the road as well as No. 4 seed Bloomington Jefferson will play at No. 5 seed Burnsville. Kennedy and Jefferson share their field, but the Kennedy gets the home game with a higher seed than Jefferson.
