With the track at Irish Stadium still not installed, the home opener for the Rosemount girls soccer team has been moved.
Now, Rosemount officials are hoping it’s the only game that will be affected.
The Irish girls soccer team will still open its season against Henry Sibley on Thursday, Aug. 27, but the game has been shifted to Eastview High School while the track resurfacing is still taking place.
“Eastview was kind enough to let us come to their stadium,” Rosemount athletics director Mike Manning said. “Hopefully, if things go according to plan, that should be the only game that we have to move.”
Manning said work to install the track, which was pulled up in late May, will begin today, weather-permitting. Manning said the crew was expected to work during the weekend to shorten the expected 12-day installation and curing period to just seven days.
“If it’s pushed back, we have more games to take care of,” Manning said. “If the weather is good Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then life should be good.”
The boys soccer team is set to host Richfield on Saturday, Aug. 29.
“It’s unfortunate if that happens for this group’s senior year,” Rosemount boys soccer coach Mike Floersch said of his team’s home opener and the 16 seniors on the roster.
Both soccer teams host their Shakopee counterparts on Sept. 1, and the football home opener is scheduled for Sept. 3.
