When the Rosemount boys lacrosse team beat Lakeville North last week, the pride coach Lance Kuehn felt was obvious.
It wasn’t because it was a surprise. Entering last week, Kuehn anticipated a 3-0 week, even against teams that had beaten Rosemount last year.
But with the Irish’s improvement, Kuehn was confident his team could flip those results
But, it was the way Rosemount beat Lakeville North that had the coach beaming.
“We played extremely hard,” Kuehn said. “Danny (Long) made two crucial saves in overtime, won the game for us.”
The Irish (4-3) came back with three fourth-quarter goals to tie Lakeville North, and then won 6-5 in double overtime. After a 5-0 victory at Bloomington Kennedy last Friday, Rosemount had the 3-0 week the coach predicted.
“I am very proud of my boys for winning all three games last week,” Kuehn said. “Our team goals are being met.”
And each team member is helping the cause.
Against Kennedy, Bjorn Nilsen scored two goals. Ben Lucius, Nick Lutterman, and Matt Weller each scored once.
Long stopped all 13 shots he faced in goal
“A lot of the credit goes to his defense, which didn’t let Kennedy get many quality shots,” Kuehn said.
The Irish got its own quality shots late against Lakeville North. Down 5-2 in the fourth quarter, the rally began.
Nilsen had three goals including the game-winner. Phil McDonald scored twice and Weller added the other goal.
