After winning the state title last year, an encore by the Rosemount boys track and field team would be extremely difficult.
There is still a lot to be determined this season. But, the Irish have shown the potential this season to actually produce an encore.
In the past week, they hosted the 37th annual Jim Sauer Invitational and won the team title. They followed it with a second-place finish in the Lake Conference relays, held Tuesday at the University of Minnesota’s Bierman field.
At the Jim Sauer Invitational, Austin Eliason won the 100-meter dash, with Christian Willman placing third.
Andrew Anderson won the 400 dash.
Chris Massey, Chris Mergens and Abasher Abasher went 1-2-3 in the 800 run.
Zach Vraa won the 110 hurdles, with Tyler Rich finishing third. Vraa, Rich and Ben Danielson then went 1-2-3 in the 300 hurdles.
The 4x100 team of Joey Broback, Anderson, Alon Dungy, and Myles Phillips placed first. Eliason, Anderson, Willman and Phillips won the 4x200 relay.
Abasher, Mergens, Ben Koeppen, and Ben Carlson won the 4x800 relay.
Tony Marthaler won the pole vault. Eliason won the long jump with Jeremy Stewart placing second.
Stewart, Marius Lewis, and Andrew Hausman were 1-2-3 in the triple jump.
Brandt Berghuis won the shot put competition.
