A Rosemount couple faces charges of child neglect after police found their home filled with trash and smelling of urine and feces.
A police officer went to the home of Richard and Debra Marquardt last October. According to a complaint filed last week in the Dakota County Attorney’s office they found kitchen counters and cooking surfaces covered with spilled food. Used dishes, objects, diapers and clothing were all over the floor. One bathroom was out of operation and the other was dirty.
According to the complaint two children, a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old, had to balance over items just to walk around the home, and there were other objects that appeared they could fall on the children.
There were several kittens, two dogs and two birds in the home.
The county attorney’s office has charged both Richard, 33, and Debra, 41, with two counts of child neglect. Each carries a potential sentence of up to a year and fines of up to $3,000.
