Sterner wins primary over Walter-Hansen

Phillip Sterner has won the primary election to be the democratic candidate for the House of Representatives 37 B race on the Nov 4 ballot. Sterner will battle Republican candidate Judy Lindsay for the seat currently held by Dennis Ozment.

Ozment, a Republican who has served in the House since 1984, announced his retirement earlier this year. District 37 B covers all of Rosemount and the eastern portion of Apple Valley.

Sterner, a Rosemount City Councilman, faced off with veterinarian Kurt Walter-Hansen, also a Rosemount resident, for a spot on the Nov. 4 ballot. With 12 of 14 precincts reporting Sterner overwhelmingly won the election with 70 percent of the votes.

Sterner was the DFL endorsed candidate. Despite Sterner’s endorsement Walter-Hansen went against him. Walter-Hansen said he believed the DFL voters should chose and not just a few delegates. Voters can not cross party lines when voting for the primary.

In other races Paul H. Anderson received the most votes for the Supreme Court 3 Associate Justice race and Lorie Skjerven Gildea took the Supreme Court 4 Associate Justice race.
