Clean-up efforts are under way after strong winds caused a considerable amount of damage to the central part of Farmington Friday morning.

Severe weather sirens sounded around 3:30 a.m. Friday. According to Farmington city administrator Peter Herlofsky, the winds moved from the west to east, knocking down several large trees and damaging several homes in its path. The storm itself came through the area sometime around 4 a.m.

The area that received the most damage is near 193rd Street and Pilot Knob Road. Herlofsky said there is “a concerning amount of damage” to the homes there. Several trees were snapped off at the base.

A number of homes sustained damage. Some lost roofs and in some cases garages appear to have been pulled off the homes.

Residents have said the damage all occurred about half an hour before emergency sirens sounded.

The Farmington Fire Department and Farmington Police Department have been responding to damage reports since the storm blew through. No one was injured in the storm, and city crews are out collecting debris, Herlofsky said.

“Our biggest concern is that more rain is supposed to come through this afternoon,” Herlofsky said.

Residents who have sustained damage from Friday’s storm should call the Farmington Police Department, 651-280-6700, or 911. Police will dispatch fire or squads as necessary.

There have also been reports of contractors out in neighborhoods soliciting work. Farmington police have said that if any contractors are too aggressive or make homeowners feel uncomfortable residents should call police.
