October 9

First State Bank 100th open house

The First State Bank of Rosemount will celebrate its 100th anniversary with an open house from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

Wii games at the library

Teen can play Wii games from 3 to 4:30 p.m at the Robert Trail Library. All teens are welcome and there will be snacks provided.

Project launch celebration

Dakota Future will have a project launch celebration for its Dakota County Intelligent Design Initiative, 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 9 at Dakota County Technical College.

Teen night

Rosemount youth in grades 6-8 during the 2009-10 school year who attend school in Rosemount or live within Rosemount boundaries are invited to attend the monthly, supervised teen nights at the Rosemount Community Center. Teen night is a safe environment where youth can socialize and interact with each other in a positive way. Activities include music, games and open gym.

Every participant must have a parent authorization/emergency contact form on file in order to attend teen night. A new form must be completed each school year.

Legion craft sale

Rosemount American Legion Auxiliary will have their annual craft and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Legion hall in Rosemount. A variety of craft and baked goods will be available for sale.

October 11

Fire department open house

Rosemount residents can learn how to keep their families and homes safe during the fire department's open house 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11.

Highlights include a demonstration of rescues by extrication from vehicle accidents. As part of the demonstration, the North Memorial air ambulance helicopter will arrive around 12:30 p.m.

The department will also offer demonstrations of air bags and tours of the fire station, trucks and the educational smoke house. Firefighters will serve up food and drink, and Sparky the Fire Dog will make a special appearance.

The open house will take place at Rosemount Fire Station No. 1, 14700 Shannon Parkway.

Rays of Hope

There will be a fundraiser for Terri Olson, who is battling brain cancer, 3 to 8 p.m. Oct. 11 at the American Legion, 14590 Burma Ave. W.

The event will include a silent auction, games, pizza, cake, and refreshments.

Internet safety seminar

The Rosemount Police Department will offer tips and share information on how families can keep their children safe on the Internet during a presentation Oct. 12.  Police Sgt. Henry Cho will address the challenges posed by online systems like social networks.  Sgt. Cho will also discuss text messaging and warning signs of cyber bullying. 

The session is appropriate for teens and their parents to attend, and is intended to start discussions within families of how to make new technology an asset, and not a risk.  The talk will be held Monday, Oct. 12, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Robert Trail Library, 14395 South Robert Trail, Rosemount.

AM Connection

The AM Connection is the monthly event held in Rosemount. It meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month from 8 to 9 a.m. The AM Connection is organized by the Rosemount Area Business Council.

The October AM Connection continues with a new feel as CF Industries, 5300 Pine Bend Trail, will serve as host for this purely networking event. Join Rosemount business people for a cup of coffee and bring your business cards to make connections with the business community.

Meals of Hope

Divorce seminar for women

There will be a free seminar for women contemplating divorce Oct. 20 at the Edward Jones, 3420 150th St.

The seminar will include information on the top 10 issues when going through divorce proceedings. Evon Spangler, an attorney with the law firm Spangler and De Stefano, will provide legal information and Stacey Brown, from Edward Jones, will provide financial information.

There will be a Teen Advisory group meeting Oct. 23 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. at the Robert Trail Library.

This is a group of teens who are interested in volunteering at the library and in making recommendations for library programming and purchases.  If anyone 12 to 17 is interested in joining, you may come to the meeting and check it out or pick up an application at any time and join.

October 24

Haunted Woods Trail

Rosemount's annual Haunted Woods Trail event will take place 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 in Central Park.

The trail will begin at the park and ride lot on Hwy. 3 (South Robert Trail), wind its way through Central Park, and exit onto 145th Street West.

Area volunteers will pass out candy. Donations will be accepted at the trail entrance.
