Wrestling: Wrestlers second in Section 3AAA
Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

There's no shame in losing a wrestling dual to Apple Valley.

The Rosemount wrestling team was more than pleased to come away from Friday's Section 3AAA team tournament with the runner-up plaque after falling 65-2 to the Eagles, ranked first in the state, third nationally and wrestling in front of their home crowd at Apple Valley High School.

The Irish defended their No. 2 seed, first defeating No. 7 Eagan 39-25, and then advancing to the section finals for the first time since 2003 with a 43-14 rout of No. 3-seeded Henry Sibley.

"Our goal coming in was to go after second. We haven't been out of the first round the last three or four years, so we worked hard and we earned it," Rosemount coach Brett Larson said. "We won a lot of key matches and wrestled well."

Adam Hedin was the only Rosemount wrestler to finish the day 3-0. He pinned his opponent in each of the first two duals before earning a 3-2 decision against Apple Valley.

Dan Rosa, Steve Levine, Jake Baker, Adam Jackson, Pat Massey and Sam Moeller each finished 2-1.

The Irish won 9 of 14 matches against Eagan and 10 of 14 against Henry Sibley.

"We had a good week of practice and came out and competed and showed what we are capable of,"?Larson said.

The Irish compete in the Section 3AAA?individual tournament tomorrow and Saturday at Eastview.
