Wrestling: Irish wrap up fourth in conference

Whether it's in the conference or in the section, the Rosemount wrestling team has to go up against some tough competition.

The Irish closed out the regular season with a 52-11 pounding of Eagan last Thursday at Irish Gym. That left them 5-3 in the South Suburban Conference, good enough for fourth place behind three of the state's top nine teams: No. 2 Apple Valley, No. 3 Prior Lake and No. 9 Lakeville North.

An overall mark of 17-5 earned the Irish the No. 2 seed in Section 3AAA, where they once again hope to advance to face Apple Valley in the finals. The tournament begins tomorrow night at Henry Sibley High School.

The Irish won 10 of 14 weights against Eagan. Jake Baker, Adam Hedin, Grant Jackson, Connor Busho and Kouta Sugii each won by fall.

Fifth-ranked 120-pounder Dan Rosa won via pin, as did teammates Kwame Owusu, Craig Syzmanski and Payton Otterdahl.

Sixth-ranked Sam Moeller added a forfeit victory at 170 pounds.
