Eleven wrestlers won events and four came away with seventh-place finishes or better as the Irish tied for 10th out of 60 teams with 112 points last weekend at the Fargodome.

"To tie for 10th in that tough of a tournament with 60 teams from six states was outstanding. It probably went as well as it could have," Rosemount coach Brett Larson said. "We beat a number of teams and individuals who were ranked in the state and from other states, as well."

Dan Rosa (106 pounds) and Adam Jackson (152 pounds) were Rosemount's top individual finishers, each placing third in their brackets. Both wrestlers lost to the eventual champions in the semifinals before coming back to win the consolation bracket.

"The competition was definitely comparable to a state tournament. It was real good for them to come back to get third," Larson said. "They beat some very quality opponents."

Steve Levine and Adam Hedin each suffered losses on the first day of the tournament, but battled back to place fourth and seventh, respectively.

"Both wrestlers, based on where they lost on the first day, had to wrestle five matches from 9 to 2 and that was difficult," Larson said. "They did it. It was a couple of very gutsy performances. It's tough to come back through the consolation bracket in that big of a tournament."

Sam Moeller was the next best Irish finisher. He advanced to the second day at 170 pounds. Also winning matches for Rosemount were Jake Baker, Grant Jackson, Kwame Owusu, Pat Massey, Sebastian Paradise and Stefan Sauer.

"Even though those guys didn't place, we wouldn't have been in 10th without their contributions. Their points were crucial to how we did as a team," Larson said. "It was a great tournament for the team to experience, with 19 mats on the floor and all the high-end wrestlers. That atmosphere drives you and keeps you going to do the best you can."

The Irish continue their South Suburban Conference dual season tonight at home against Bloomington Jefferson.
