Wild Irish come from behind in final seconds to advance in playoffs
The Rosemount/Eagan girls lacrosse team was minutes away from being ousted from the Section 3 tournament, but rallied with two late goals to upset Lakeville North 9-8 on Wednesday.
The Wild Irish, seeded No. 7, will face No. 3 seed Apple Valley on Tuesday, May 31 at Apple Valley High school at 5 p.m. in the section semifinals. Rosemount/Eagan is the lowest seed still remaining in the tournament. Bloomington Kennedy, the No. 1 seed, will face No. 4 seed Bloomington Jefferson in the other semifinal on Tuesday.
The Wild Irish rallied to get to this point.
Lakeville North was the No. 2 seed and held a four-goal lead with 16:44 remaining in the game. After the teams swapped goals, Rosemount/Eagan trailed 8-5 with 4:45 left.
But it was all Wild Irish from there.
Rosemount/Eagan's Abi Rodstein scored twice, once with 3:07 left and her other tally with 2:44 remaining to bring the Wild Irish within one at 8-7.
In the final minute, the Wild Irish finished off their comeback.
Lisa Crow scored for Rosemount/Eagan with 35 seconds left and Simone Haugen scored the game-winner with 18 seconds remaining.
Haugen scored four goals in the game. Rodstein and Cassie Miller each had two goals.
