Seventh-ranked Rosemount hosts eighth-ranked Lakeville North in a battle of undefeated South Suburban Conference teams tonight at Irish Stadium.
The Irish, defending conference champions and Class 5A State runners-up, haven't lost a conference game since a 17-0 setback at Lakeville North in Week 7 of the 2009 season. They have defeated Bloomington Kennedy, Burnsville and Prior Lake by a combined 79-19 in their three victories this season.
Lakeville North, meanwhile, has blown by then-ranked Eastview, Apple Valley and Edina by a combined 114-50. Senior quarterback Trey Heid has thrown for 662 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns.
The high-powered Panthers run a balanced offense. They have thrown the ball 70 times, including 25 completions to senior Charlie Hayes, and run the ball 84 times, led by senior Brandon Morgan's 139 yards on 42 attempts.
As in years past, the Irish continue to be a run-first team. Andy Gustafson has 182 yards on 48 carries and quarterback Nate LeMoine has 244 yards and three scores on 39 carries to go along with 277 passing yards and four touchdown tosses. In all, the Irish have 111 rushes compared to just 39 pass attempts.
Kick-off for tonight's battle of conference leaders is set for 7 p.m.
