VFW will host sub-district tourney
As the 2008 summer season comes to a close, Rosemount's VFW baseball team will play host to the sub-district tourney this weekend.
Rosemount played Thursday afternoon in the first round of the tournament, which is being played at the high school field.
Coach Rene Jimenez is looking forward to the tournament, and the opportunity to advance to district play.
During the past week, Rosemount's offense picked up and led to a pair of victories.
Rosemount beat Burnsville last week, 3-2, in a pitcher's duel.
"It was a really good ballgame," Jimenez said. "We managed to edge them out. I felt we got strong performances from both of our pitchers."
Adam Bergstrom and Chris Adams combined on the mound for Rosemount during the victory.
Later, Rosemount lost to Jordan, 8-7.
"It was a disaster," Jimenez said. "We fell apart defensively. Everybody on the team knew what their role was in the defeat."
Trailing 8-0 in the sixth inning, Rosemount scored seven times in the sixth and seventh to close the gap, but couldn't get a key hit to take the lead.
Jake Turner and Adams had a pair of doubles for Rosemount, as did Chris Couillard.
Rosemount rebounded to beat Edina 10-3.
Turner pitched the complete game, throwing 108 pitches.
