VFW: Rosemount falls to Farmington 17-2

The Rosemount VFW baseball team has won more games than it's lost this season, but when they lose, they lose big.

Rosemount is 9-4 so far this season, and 6-2 in league games, but in a matchup Monday against Farmington, the league's only other one-loss team Rosemount lost 17-2.

"Our kids did not play well last night," coach Matt Buss said. "We ended up getting 10-runned pretty good."

Rosemount committed seven errors in the game. They dropped fly balls. They made throwing errors. They hit the ball well, Buss said, but they ball always seemed to find its way to the Farmington defense.

The game came at the end of a string of mixed results for the Rosemount VFW. The team beat Spring Lake Park 5-1 Friday in a tournament in Spring Lake Park. A Saturday game was rained out, but the team played Benilde Sunday for a shot at the championship and lost, 8-1.

In league play, Rosemount beat Richfield 5-3 on June 12 and Minneapolis Southwest 8-1 on June 13.

Buss said the team just has to get used to the idea of winning games.

"They had a pretty tough school ball season," he said. "Their record was, like, 3-16, 3-17 or something like that. It seems to be like, these kids play really well when they're on, but the minute they get behind it falls apart."

Buss is confident the team can pull things together as it moves through the league season, though.

"We've got some talent on the team," he said. "I was surprised to hear they only won three games this year."

Rosemount is done with tournaments for the year and is focusing on league play. The team has another big game Thursday against Prior Lake, the only other team in the league with only two losses.
