Two new photos businesses are shooting up the town
Rosemount has two new photography businesses. Erin Zemanovic Photography and KB Photography have both started up in the past year. Here is a run down on each of the businesses.
Erin Zemanovic Photography
Two years ago Zemanovic attended the wedding of a friend in Boston. It was a small, intimate affair and the couple asked Zemanovic if she'd take pictures with a point-and-shoot camera.
She agreed and found out taking pictures was something she really loved to do.
"I can't put into words how much I love it," said Zemanovic.
When she got home she immediately bought a camera, a Nikon D30, and started learning all its different features. She made it a point to learn at least one thing about photography every day.
"I have been obsessively studying it," said Zemanovic.
Then, about a year ago Zemanovic decided to make a business out of her obsession. She shoots people and all the events of their lives, including weddings, family portraits, senior pictures and more. She also does some contract work, including for National Sports Photo.
Having very little overhead cost, Zemanovic said she can offer her services for a low price.
"No studio means I can keep my prices low," said Zemanovic.
Zemanovic added that unlike most photography studios she's willing to work with clients as long as it takes to get good shots.
"I can offer people lots of time for cheap. I'll spend half a day with someone going to different locations and doing different stuff to get good shots," said Zemanovic.
Zemanovic also keeps her costs low by cutting out printed photos. After touching them up she'll put all the photos on a disc and give them to the clients.
"There's lots of places to get quality prints and helps me keep my prices low," said Zemanovic.
Starting up the business has been fun. Zemanovic has gotten to take lots of pictures and found she has a talent for making people look good.
"I've had people tell me they didn't know they could look so good," Zemanovic said. "It's a cool feeling to make people feel good about themselves."
Photography is a part time gig for Zemanovic. She also works as a receptionist for an engineering company but hopes she will eventually be able to make photography her career.
Zemanovic has lived in Rosemount for 17 years. She is married and has two children that attend Rosemount High School.
Kerry Budinger always has been the go-to family photographer. When something was happening she was the one behind the camera recording the memories.
Then, last year, she was the unofficial photographer for her daughter's volleyball and basketball teams. After seeing her pictures a few of the girls asked Budinger to do their senior photos and it got her thinking that maybe she could make photography more than just a hobby.
"It just sort of snowballed," said Budinger.
Over the course of the year she started KB Photography. She offers portrait photography including senior pictures, family photos and more.
Budinger charges a set fee. With that customers get rights to no fewer than 10 digital pictures. The fee includes approximately two hours at a location or several of the customer's choice and an unlimited number of clothing changes. Like Zemanovic, she keeps her prices low by not offering prints.
"When my daughter had her senior pictures done I was shocked at the prices people charged," Budinger said. Budinger says she will keep her prices affordable.
Budinger works part-time but hopes to maker photography her full-time job someday. She would eventually like to open a studio.
