Two injured in plane crash
A small plane crashed injuring two people south of Dakota County Technical College Saturday afternoon. Police and fire crews responded to the accident shortly before 4 p.m.
The plane went down in a cornfield near Jensen Airfield which is located on the University of Minnesota property. Both victims, one man and one woman, were conscious when rescue crews arrived
Assistant fire chief Jim Voelker said the man, who piloted the plane, was up walking and talking when emergency crews arrived. The woman who suffered more severe injuries was lying on the ground but alert. He said neither victim sustained life threatening injuries.
The pilot told authorities after take off the plane lost power so he turned back toward the airfield. Upon landing a wing hit the ground and the plane flipped.
Both were transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The man went by ambulance and the woman was airlifted.
The Federal Aviation Administration was on the scene Saturday investigating, said Voelker. The National Transportation Safety Board was expected to be on the scene Sunday.
