The Rosemount girls track and field team has finally had the opportunity to get several meets in this spring season, and coach Sara Hatleli is hoping to see continued, even accelerated, improvement with more competitions.

The Irish placed seventh at last week's South Suburban Conference relays, but have their sights set on a strong finish.

"The girls are focused and continually working on improving in each of their events," Hatleli said. "Every meet we get better and hopefully they will peak at the right time. I know they are excited for the JV conference meet, varsity section meet, section meet and state meet."

With the weather improving, the Irish can finally get more competitions in, and having more meet experience will be a key factor.

"The weather helps, but meet experience helps more," Hatleli said. "Confidence is a huge part of competing well. I would expect times, heights and distances to continue to improve at a steady rate the rest of the season."

Rosemount scored 120 points to finish seventh at the South Suburban Conference relays at Prior Lake last week. The Lakers won the team title with 197.50 points.

"We were hoping for better, but we didn't have a full squad due to injuries," Hatleli said. "The athletes who competed did well, and there were several season or personal bests. We still have a lot of work to do before the conference and section meets, especially with the lack of meets this spring with the weather."

Katie Toombs made the state's honor roll in the shot put, with a distance of 35 feet, 1 inch to place ninth individually at the conference relays.

Natalie Busher also added her name to the state's honor roll in the high jump and triple jump. She finished second in the triple jump last week and was tied for fifth in the high jump.

The Rosemount girls placed second in the 1,600-meter sprint relay. The distance medley relay finished fourth.

The Irish crossed the line in third place in the 4x400 relay. They were fourth in the 3x3,200 and 4x1,600 relays.

Rosemount individuals added an eighth place finish in the triple jump.

Boys take the trophy

The Rosemount boys track and field team won the South Suburban Conference relays, scoring 202 points to best second-place Prior Lake's 181 points.

The Irish earned the traveling trophy by winning the last six events.

Rosemount had fourth, sixth, seventh and 11th place finishes in the 1,600.

The Irish were also first in the 1,600 sprint relay, the 800 sprint relay, the distance relay, the 4x200, the 4x400 and the 4x1,600 relays.

Rosemount individuals were first, fifth and ninth in the triple jump. They added a fifth in the long jump.

The Irish were first, second, and 14th in the shot put, and placed third, 10th and 15th in the discus.

Rosemount crossed the line in third in the 4x800.
