The Irish finished first in four of the meet's 18 events and second in five others.

"I felt like our team competed very well. Our experienced team leaders set a tone by the way they competed," Rosemount coach Jay Hatleli said. "We ended up being a little bit short-handed due to a few injuries, but some less experienced kids jumped in and did a nice job. Our plan is to be at full strength for the True Team section meet (Tuesday at Apple Valley)."

Rosemount's four event championships last Tuesday came in the 4x1,600 relay, the 110 high hurdles, the distance medley relay and the long jump. The Irish came in second in the triple jump, 4x200, 4x800, 3x3,200 and 3x100 shuttle hurdle.

Third-place finishes came in the 1,600 sprint medley, 4x400 relay and 800 sprint medley.

The Irish placed fifth out of 10 teams on the girls side, coming up 8 1/2 points shy of fourth after two relays -- the 4x200 and 800 sprint medley -- were disqualified.

The hurdle races accounted for four of the team's best performances. The 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 3x300 shuttle hurdle all finished in second place and the 3x100 shuttle hurdle came in third.

Other third-place showings came in the 4x1,600 relay and the distance medley. The 1,600 sprint medley, 3x3,200 and 4x100 all placed fourth.

"There were a lot of great performances and the effort shown by our athletes was great to see, especially leading up to the section True Team and conference meet," girls coach Sara Hatleli said.

Both the boys and girls teams competed in the True Team section meet Tuesday at Apple Valley.
