Township elections will be held March 11
Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

Residents in Castle Rock, Empire and Eureka townships will have a solid base of candidates to choose from during the March 11 township elections.

Candidates in all three elections have a history of public service.

Eureka Township is the only township with a question on this year’s ballot. Voters in Eureka will be asked to determine whether the clerk/treasurer should be separated out to two separate positions. A yes vote means the position will be separated and two individuals hired to take the positions. A no vote would keep the position as it is, with one person handling both responsibilities.

Two three-year positions are open on the Eureka Township Board of Supervisors. Seats 1 and 2 are currently held by Brian Budenski and Pete Storlie, respectively. Budenski is challenged by Butch Hansen, who is currently serving on the planning commission. Storlie, who is the current township chairman, is challenged by Cory Behrendt, a former township board chairman himself.

Polls will be open at Eureka Township Hall from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Eureka Township annual meeting will be held that same night, starting at 8:15 p.m.

Castle Rock Township

Only one seat is open in Castle Rock. It is currently held by supervisor Mike Rademacher. Rademacher is not seeking reelection.

“I’m going to miss Mike,” Castle Rock clerk Barbara Lang said. “He’s been my rock since I took on this job a year ago.”

But there is no shortage of candidates interested in filling that position. On this year’s ballot are former township supervisor Michael Kiefer, former township supervisor Norbert Kuhn and current planning commissioner Jeff Partington.

Castle Rock’s polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The annual meeting will follow at 8:30 p.m.

Empire Township

The election in Empire Township will likely be pretty straightforward, as incumbent Terry Holmes is running unopposed. Holmes is the township chairman, and has been on the board for more than two decades.

Polls at Empire Township will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The annual meeting will follow at 8:15 p.m. Clerk Kathy Krippner said the annual meeting’s agenda will include a recap of the past year.

“Empire’s just a pretty mellow place,” she said.
