Swedish choir will perform Saturday at St. Joseph Church
Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

In 2012, the Vettern College Choir performed for the students of St. Joseph School. St. Joseph Director of Worship Bill Bradley described the performance as wonderful, so when the opportunity came up to bring the Swedish choir back to Rosemount, Bradley jumped.

This time, though, Bradley wants the whole community to enjoy. The Vettern College Choir from Jonkoping, Sweden will perform at 6:30 p.m. March 29 at the church. The performance is free and open to the public.

Bradley said the choir has a large repertoire that includes traditional choral works, Swedish ethnic music and hymns. Known as Sodra Vatterbygdens Folkhogskola in their homeland, all members of the choir are music majors at Vettern College of Music, said Bradley. The students are accompanied by five professors who are all professional musicians and play various instruments.

The choir members will travel throughout Minnesota visiting areas with rich history of Swedish immigration. According to a press release, in the 1900s a large number of Swedish immigrants moved to Minnesota. In 1910, Swedish-Americans made up 12 percent of Minnesota’s population. In some areas including Chisago and Isanti counties, Swedish-Americans made up close to 70 percent of the population.

Swedish treats will be served before the performance, Bradley said. The performance will follow the 5 p.m. mass. A free will offering will be accepted.
