Youth sports are a popular and crucial part of the lives of kids everywhere today. Most kids try out a sport sometime in their lives and Rosemount is blessed to have good youth sports programs.

When I was in elementary school I played in-house basketball, volleyball and softball and I remember having the time of my life in all of them. It wasn't just something to do when I was younger, it was a start to some of the seasons that I still compete in today.

Starting out early is one of the greatest things a kid can do. All kids have is energy. Why not exert it into a sport instead of the television? It also is a great source of exercise no matter what sport is being played.

The reason I bring this up is lately I've been trying to decide what I want to do with the sports I play. I've been contemplating whether I should keep playing, if I should try a new sport, what seasons I should compete in and if I should just flat out stop playing. I think about it all the time and I come to the same conclusion every day. In two short years I will be in college. From then on, I won't get to compete in sports like I do now. I have fun but it will all end when I get out of high school. Playing sports is something to do while I'm young, so why not keep enjoying it while I'm young because pretty soon, it will all be gone.

I hope when I am older I get to play sports for enjoyment in adult leagues. It may not be the same as it is right now but I hope to still play the sport as long as I can. My pitching coach Bruce is in his 70s and still competitively plays men's fastpitch softball. There are not many people as ambitious as Bruce but I hope someday to be just like him, to pursue the things I love no matter what age I will be.

I know many people who don't play sports anymore and strongly wish they did. I don't want to be one of those people and I don't want to see that keep happening. Enjoy it while you are young because someday you won't have that privilege anymore.

As one of the most recognized athletic companies out there always says, no matter what sport you like, Just Do It.
