Solve a murder, help the arts

The Rosemount Area Arts Council needs to raise some money. But it also wants to expose people to the arts. So it's sponsoring its second Mystery Dinner Theater at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Rosemount Community Center.

The play, "Reunited with Murder", is an interactive mystery where everyone gets to participate. RAAC member Keith Reed, owner of Mr. Mystery Plays, will put on the mystery with a cast of 10 area actors who auditioned for the roles in September.

Walking through the door, attendees will be greeted by the Mortify High reunion committee. Everyone, actors and audience members, are alumni of the high school.

The school has a bloody past. The high school, which hosts an all-class reunion every 10 years, has had a murder at each of events for the past 50 years. This reunion is no exception.

The evening will begin with hors d'ouevers and a cash bar. As the audience gets warmed up the cast will mingle, giving out clues and answering questions. Reed said only the murderer can lie.

The cast will sit with the audience through dinner and continue to act out the story. Attendees are encouraged to dress like they would have in high school or how they would dress to go to a real reunion to get into the spirit of things.

At the end of the evening everyone will get the opportunity to guess whodunnit. The first three people to get the answer right will receive a prize.

Reed said he's done the play a number of times and that it's always a hit. Reed has donated his services to the RAAC for the event.

"People get really into it and it's a lot of fun," Reed said.

Proceeds from the evening support the RAAC in its endeavor to bring arts to Rosemount and the south metro. RAAC member Beth Adams said ticket sales have been slow so far but she anticipates things will pick up.

She said they are trying to promote buying tables of eight. She suggested the play would make a great holiday party or get together.

Tickets are $38. Groups of eight or more can purchase tickets for $35 apiece. The evening will include a silent auction.

The Rosemount Area Arts Council formed in 2007 to promote arts. The group sponsors several events including the annual Shamrock Film Festival. This winter the group also will begin to offer classes.
