A solemn ceremony
Rosemount paid tribute to fallen soldiers Monday with Memorial Day ceremonies. Residents gathered for a morning event, then made the rounds to several cemeteries.
World War II Veteran and POW Richard Carroll spoke at the event. Carroll, an Army Air Corps pilot, was shot down over Hungary. He was shot in the chest by an angry mob but rescued. He recovered in Hungarian and German hospitals as a prisoner of war. A fragment of the bullet remains in his chest.
After decades of silence about his war experience, in recent years Carroll has shared his World War II experiences.
