Softball: Losing skid stretches to four
The Rosemount softball team's total number of hits and errors were closer than the Irish would have liked over the last three games.
The team saw its losing streak stretch to four games as it registered just 14 hits and piled up 11 defensive miscues in losses to Eastview, Roseville and Kennedy. In Monday's 6-3 loss to the Eagles at the Cove, the Irish had seven hits but five errors as they slipped to 4-9 overall.
Kia Henk accounted for two of the team's hits. Grace Longman had an RBI single in the second and Meghan Schuster tripled and scored on a Hannah Esselman single in the sixth.
Nicole Johnson took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs in six innings. Gabby Sprang worked a scoreless seventh.
The Irish nearly salvaged a victory out of last Friday's game against Roseville despite recording just one hit. A combination of hit-by-pitches, errors and walks produced single runs in the sixth and seventh to tie the game at 2-2, but Roseville strung together three hits and an error with two outs in the eighth to score three runs and escape with a 5-2 win.
Melissa Seldon accounted for Rosemount's lone hit and got a no-decision for her work in the center of the diamond, holding Roseville to two runs and fanning seven over the first five innings. Sprang put up zeroes in the sixth and seventh and struck out five batters before running into trouble in the eighth.
Henk had two of the team's six hits and drove home the lone Irish run in a 2-1 loss to Eastview last Thursday in Apple Valley.
The Lightning scored one in the fourth against Johnson, then walked off with the win in the bottom of the seventh.
